I will have some
video of this trip soon, as soon as I figure out how to get
the video from my "old school" (early 90s) camera into my
computer. I made a cool little rig that mounts on the Jeep
where the side mirror goes that has a tripod head on it so I
can point the camera anywhere I want. It worked great,
though the camera being a little on the heavy side (I think)
made it bounce a little more than a new little DV cam would.

Trip: Another perfect day here in the desert. Box
Canyon is southeast of Phoenix and just northeast of
Florence AZ. The road leading back to the canyon meandered
through the desert and fields of cotton along the dry Gila
River bed. I stopped and had a little chat with two other
Jeepers parked in the shade along the road and they informed
me it was getting crowded up there. Box Canyon is a very
popular place for ATVs and four wheelers. I passed many
great camp sites, places to park your truck and trailer and
many four wheeling leading off in all directions from the
main road.
As I entered
Box Canyon the road became more narrow with just room for
the Jeep with a few spots to pullover to let the ATVs
through. It's a great little canyon for Jeep ride.
My plan was
to go through the canyon then out to 70 through Cottonwood
Canyon Rd. but plans changed. I came upon a narrow section
that would require to do some rock crawling and without a
helper along to place rocks under tires and guide me I
couldn't figure a way to negotiate it. It doesn't look
like any big deal from the two pictures below and the ATV
parade had no problem going through the nice, flat, but too
narrow for the Jeep spot. There were two or three approach
possibilities but none that wouldn't put a nice dent in the
Jeep... So I chickened out and turned around but I'll be
back. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
