Dennis had some
home problems he had to take care of so this was another
trip I took alone. After the last trip
(Adventure #3) that nearly
killed the Jeep and I, I chose an easier more well kept road
and brought plenty of water and a cell phone. I wanted to
play it safe this time. The pictures to the right were taken on the road to Bartlett Reservoir
I took as a side trip on my way
home. February brought us a lot of rain, so the Mexican
Poppies are coming up everywhere...

The
Adventure: It was another perfect day as most are out
here in the desert this time of year. I wanted to get home
at about the same time as Lynne so was a timed trip. I took
Arizona road 24 as far as I could until 12:30 (the half
way point) then turned around. Road 24 is northeast of
Carefree which is northeast of Phoenix. My first stop was at
the Sears Kay ruins (pictures below). This was a village of
five buildings with 40 rooms built of
neatly stacked stones built by the Hohokam.
Hohokam
(which I believe means "Those who have gone")
is the name used for many of the ancient civilizations of the
southwest. All of these villages, like the Sears Kay ruins
were abandoned before Columbus set foot in north America.
Anyway, it was a nice little hike up the hill and a very
cool place with a great view of the valley and surrounding
mountains.
The
rest of the trip up 24 was for the most part an easy Jeep
trip with very few spots of recent wash-out that took any
real negotiating. There were also quite a few areas that had been
swept with fire. I didn't stop in Seven Springs except to
take a couple of pictures but it was a neat area along the
creek with some nice camping spots and seven hot springs
near by
(I'm told).
I
didn't get as far as I wanted because I ran out of time but
it was great just getting out there...
